Job description

The Institute of High Energy Physics of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Austria, is looking for a highly motivated, talented and qualified Ph.D. student (f/m) with a background (M.Sc., diploma, or equivalent) in experimental or theoretical high energy physics. The successful candidate will take part in our efforts to discover or exclude signals of supersymmetry in the 13 TeV LHC data to be collected by the CMS experiment. The 3-year project focuses on maximizing the sensitivity by exploiting multi-variate analysis techniques to identify potential signals from supersymmetric partner particles in the data from the upcoming LHC run in 2015.

The work will be carried out in collaboration with other international research groups. Therefore, good communication skills (English), readiness to travel (e.g. to CERN) and the quality to work in a team are required.

Besides its involvement in searches for supersymmetry and QCD studies at the CMS detector, the institute has also major responsibilities in the tracker and trigger projects in CMS.

The project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the remuneration follows the FWF scheme, amounting to a gross salary of EUR 1.996,90 per month for a part time position (30 h/week).

The location will be Vienna. The position will be opened for a period of three years. The contract will be issued initially for one year with the prospect of an extension for two more years in the case of mutual satisfaction.
