The Wilson Fellowship at Fermilab seeks applications from Ph.D.

physicists of exceptional talent with at least two (2) years of post-doctoral experience. The Fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis and is intended to support strong, assistant professor-level physicists early in their careers. It provides unique opportunities for self-directed research in experimental physics through work on the Fermilab particle physics experiment of the candidate's choice. The Fermilab experimental program includes collider physics, studies of neutrino, muon, and astroparticle physics as well as R&D and planning for experiments at future colliders and high intensity beams.

The Wilson Fellowship provides an annual salary fully competitive with a university assistant professorship. The appointment is for an initial term of three (3) years and there exists the possibility for renewal for an additional two (2) years upon completion of a successful review after the first two (2) years; thereafter, the potential exists for eventual appointment without term limit.

Qualifications and Essential Job Functions • Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research.

• Ph.D. in Physics or relevant subject.

• 2+ years of Post-Doctoral experience.

• Demonstrated experience in experimental particle or astroparticle physics.

• Established ability to lead and conduct experimental measurements.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by presentations at conferences and a strong record of publications in professional journals.

• Position may include prolonged computer work, visually demanding work and tight work schedules. In addition, the ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carrier both domestically and internationally may be required, as well as the ability and a willingness to work in underground experimental areas.

• Position may include work in confined spaces and/or with high voltage, and exposure to cryogens and ionizing radiation.

There is no legal requirement that Fermilab sponsor an employee for U.S.

permanent residence. As a result, Fermilab will make the decision to sponsor an employee on a case by case basis. Fermilab will consider the following factors, among others, when determining whether to sponsor an employee for U.S. permanent residence: performance, length of service, long-term need for the position, and cost.
