NEWS FROM POINT 2
- Shift booking opportunities:
- SL blocks (2 blocks): (1) 2-7 June and (2) 26 June to 1 July
- ECS block (2 blocks): (1) 31 May to 5 June and (2) 31 Aug to 5 Sep
Shifts booking via SAMS
- The new shift schedule, with the additional proton-proton shift blocks as well as the shifted heavy-ion period, is open for booking to the whole collaboration.
- ALICE Run Manager (29 April - 12 May 2024): Daiki Sekihata
Daiki Sekihata is a postdoc from the University of Tokyo and a specialist in electromagnetic probes. In 2015 he was deputy System Run Coordinator of the PHOS detector when ALICE took the first Pb-Pb data at 5.02 TeV in Run2. During Long Shutdown 2, he was involved in the upgrade of the TPC, in particular in the installation and pre-commissioning of the GEM detectors in the clean room at Point 2. He also took two Run Manager mandates in Run 3, one in 2022 and one in 2023. Daiki is actively involved in physics data analysis. He was the coordinator of the low-mass di-electron PAG from July 2020 to February 2023 and is currently PWG-EM convener since October 2023.
During his mandate, Daiki will supervise the production of proton-proton physics at 500 kHz, and will coordinate the software upgrades according to the LHC schedule.
- LHC and P2 news:
- LHC intensity rampup:
The LHC is regularly providing stable beams with 2352 colliding bunches, for proton-proton physics production. During the past weekend the machine efficiency in stable beams was almost 60%, but operations were interrupted by a quench in sector 78 and took several hours to be recovered. During the week, in addition to the physics production, the machine completed the set-up of the Van Der Meer measurements. - P2 operations:
ALICE continues to collect data for proton-proton physics production at 500 kHz. On Tuesday we performed the regular software upgrade and validation, taking advantage of an urgent access for ATLAS. The data-taking efficiency during this first phase of physics production is above 90%, with all detectors regularly taking part to the physics runs.
